JEFFERSON PARISH CALLS FOR MANDATORY EVACUATION FOR TOWN OF JEAN LAFITTE, LOWER LAFITTE, CROWN POINT AND BARATARIA DUE TO TROPICAL STORM SALLY

JEFFERSON PARISH, LA – Mayor of Jean Lafitte Tim Kerner, Jr. and Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng have issued a mandatory evacuation for the town of Jean Lafitte, Lower Lafitte, Crown Point and Barataria due to Tropical Storm Sally.

JEFFERSON PARISH PREPARES FOR TROPICAL STORM SALLY

JEFFERSON, LA – Tropical Storm Sally is expected to strengthen to hurricane intensity and impact the Jefferson Parish area.

LANE CLOSURE: TRANSCONTINENTAL DRIVE

Starting Monday, September 14, 2020, at 9:00 a.m., the right northbound lane of Transcontinental Dr., approximately 300’ north from Park Dr. N., will be closed daily until 3:00 p.m.

JEFFERSON PARISH EAST BANK ANIMAL SHELTER TEMPORARILY CHANGES INTAKE PROCEDURES AS PART OF HURRICANE LAURA DISASTER RELIEF

Intake procedures and protocols at the Jefferson Parish East Bank Animal Shelter located at #1 Humane Way Jefferson, LA 70123, have changed temporarily to accommodate overflow housing for pets of Hurricane Laura evacuees.

AERIAL SPRAYING FOR MOSQUITOES

Low level aerial spraying in response to nuisance mosquito activity is scheduled to take place on the east and west banks of Jefferson Parish on the evening of Wednesday, September 9, 2020 from 7 – 10 p.m., weather conditions permitting.

JEFFERSON PARISH COUNCIL MEETS WITH GOVERNOR JOHN BEL EDWARDS TO DISCUSS THE POTENTIAL OF COVID19 RECOVERY PHASES AND RESTRICTIONS ON A REGIONAL BASIS

The Jefferson Parish Council met with Governor John Bel Edwards this morning to discuss the Council resolution that passed unanimously at last week’s Council meeting, which requests the Governor to enact COVID-19 recovery phases and restrictions on a regional basis in lieu of the current statewide implementation.

Starting Saturday, September 5, 2020, at 8:00 a.m., one northbound lane of Cleary Ave. between Veterans Blvd. and W. Esplanade Ave. will be closed.
