TWO DROP-OFF LOCATIONS AVAILABLE FOR JEFFERSON PARISH RESIDENTS
TO DISPOSE OF USED COOKING OIL

JEFFERSON, LA – Many people at Thanksgiving are left with an abundance of cooking oil (corn, vegetable, olive, and peanut oil) from their deep-frying holiday endeavors. The Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs would like to remind residents during this holiday season that year-round, there are two drop-off locations for Jefferson Parish residents to dispose of used cooking oil.

Cooking oil should never be poured down the drain as it can damage the home’s plumbing and the Jefferson Parish municipal sewer system. If poured down a storm drain, oil will flow into Lake Pontchartrain and bayous, decreasing oxygen levels for our valuable ecosystem. 

Recycling drop-off locations:

• Metairie: 400 David Drive between Airline Drive and W. Metairie Avenue
• Marrero: 6440 Lapalco Boulevard, entrance on Betty Street

Hours of operation at these sites are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Please note: The drop-off sites will be closed on Thursday, November 23, 2023 in observance of Thanksgiving, but will reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023. Residents are allowed to dispose of 5 gallons of cooking oil per day and must present a valid driver’s license or water bill with a Jefferson Parish address.
