FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ROAD CLOSURE
SAUVE ROAD AT THE SONIAT CANAL
JEFFERSON, LA – Starting today, November 4, 2020, Sauve Rd. at the Soniat Canal will be closed in both directions. Motorists traveling north or south between Jefferson Hwy. and Hickory Ave. should use Citrus Rd. Other possible routes include Little Farms Ave. and Filmore St. to the west of Sauve Rd., or Colonial Club Dr. and Hickory Ave. to the east of Sauve Rd. CLICK HERE for a video with additional information and to see all alternate routes.
This road closure is necessary to remove and replace the existing bridge over the Soniat Canal, which is a timber pile supported structure built in 1960 and one of the lowest rated bridges with regard to structural integrity in Jefferson Parish. This is a $832,000 project that is being paid for with 100 percent federal funds. The project construction will be managed by the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development (DOTD). Work is scheduled to be completed by Thursday, March 19, 2021, at 6:00 p.m.
