JEFFERSON PARISH TEAMS UP WITH ArcGNO FOR BEAD RECYCLING

JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs, a Keep America/Keep Louisiana Beautiful Affiliate, is again partnering with the Arc of Greater New Orleans (ArcGNO) and the Jefferson Parish Library to collect Mardi Gras beads during the 2020 carnival season.

From Wednesday, February 12 until Wednesday, March 4, residents may drop off their unwanted beads inside the following Jefferson Parish Library branches during normal operating hours:

East Bank Regional Library
4747 W. Napoleon Avenue
Metairie, LA 70001

West Bank Regional Library
2751 Manhattan Boulevard
Harvey, LA 70058

Bead recycling is also accessible throughout the year at the following Jefferson Parish drop sites:

400 David Drive Metairie, LA 70003

6440 Lapalco Marrero, LA 70072

The Department of Environmental Affairs is constantly seeking ways to divert material from the landfill and build upon their overall recycling efforts. In 2019, Jefferson Parish residents donated more than 4.13 tons of beads at these drop sites.

The bead recycling program allows ArcGNO to create wage-earning jobs for young adults with intellectual disabilities by hiring them to collect, sort, package and resell these beads.
