JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters Office is urging all registered voters to confirm their “Party Affiliation” in preparation for the upcoming Spring 2024 Presidential Preference Primary election, scheduled for March 23, 2024.

“Voting is a fundamental right that empowers citizens to actively participate in shaping the future of our community,” said Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters Dennis DiMarco. “The Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters Office remains dedicated to providing a seamless and efficient voting experience, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all eligible citizens.”

The Spring 2024 Presidential Preference Primary Election is a closed party election. Individuals can only cast their vote for candidates within the voter’s registered party for closed party elections. This information can be obtained by visiting the Louisiana Secretary of State website.

There are only two political parties involved in this election, the Democratic and Republican parties, because they have 40,000 or more registered members. Democratic voters may only vote on candidates from the office of Democratic presidential nominee and Democratic state and local committees, plus any local offices and/or propositions. Republican voters may only vote on candidates from the office of Republican presidential nominee and Republican state and local committees, plus any local offices and/or propositions. All other voters may vote only for any state and local office (Judges, Council, Police Chief, etc.) and/or propositions if any are on the ballot. The deadline for in-person registration and/or party change is Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

The deadline for online registration and/or party change is Saturday, March 2, 2024. There are no runoff elections for the Democratic and Republican offices. A general election is held only if state and/or offices are on the ballot and no one receives a majority vote in the primary election.
