JEFFERSON PARISH DRAINAGE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES
CANAL BANK MAINTENANCE MAP
JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Drainage Department has launched a new Canal Bank Maintenance Map which provides the public with updates on when grass along canal tops and slopes on the East Bank and West Bank is scheduled to be mowed.
“We are excited to introduce this new resource which will inform constituents of the grass-cutting schedule in their area,” said Jefferson Parish Drainage Director Ben Lepine. “We're hopeful the map will save time and resources by reducing the number of calls and emails the Drainage Department, Administration and Council offices receive each year regarding high grass.”
The Canal Bank Maintenance Map allows the public to view all canals in the parish or use the address search to identify and zoom to a particular location. Additionally, viewers can choose between canal tops and slopes. Toggles let users narrow their search to canal tops cut in the last 10 days, canal tops scheduled to be cut in the next 1-2 weeks or canal tops scheduled to be cut in 3-6 weeks. Most canals are mowed on a 6-week schedule, but some tops are cut every 2 or 3 weeks. All dates on the map are approximate and dependent on weather conditions.
The map can be accessed directly by clicking https://canalgrassmaintenance.azurewebsites.us/Map.html or by visiting www.JeffParish.net/departments/drainage.
In addition to canal and waterway trash pickup and grass cutting, the Drainage Department also oversees the administration, direction, coordination and implementation of major drainage and flood control programs and direct operation, construction and maintenance of 340 miles of canals, ditches, crossdrains, culverts and levee systems, 1465 miles of street subsurface drainage systems and 73 pump stations.
