HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED UNTIL 7PM
Heat index values forecast to exceed 108 degrees
JEFFERSON, LA –The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the area effective until 7:00 p.m. Heat index values are forecast to be 108 degrees or higher. Citizens are encouraged to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses when spending time outdoors.
Tips for preventing heat related illnesses include:
· Wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes
· Stay cool indoors and schedule outdoor activities carefully
· Wear sunscreen
· Stay hydrated
· Avoid hot and heavy meals
· Do not leave children or pets in cars (note: cars can quickly heat up to dangerous temperatures, even with a window cracked open)
During high temperatures, it is important to monitor those at high risk including infants, young children and people 65 years or older.
