EPILEPSY AWARENESS WALK TO TAKE PLACE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6 AT LAFRENIERE PARK
JEFFERSON, LA – In honor of National Epilepsy Awareness Month, there will be an Epilepsy Awareness Walk this Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Lafreniere Park from 10 a.m. to noon. The walk, which will begin and end at Shelter #8, is free for all participants.
“My goal is to spread awareness of epilepsy to all citizens in Jefferson Parish,” said Terri Pajares, an employee of the Jefferson Parish Attorney’s Office. Terri was diagnosed with epilepsy in 1990.
Epilepsy is a neurological condition in which nerve cell activity in the brain is being disturbed and is characterized by unpredictable seizures. It affects nearly 50 million people of all ages worldwide.
For more information about the Epilepsy Awareness Walk, contact Terri Pajares at TPajares@jeffparish.net.
For those who wish to donate, please make checks out to Epilepsy Awareness of America. The organization was started in 2021 because no local non-profit companies existed in Jefferson or Orleans Parish for the support of epilepsy. Epilepsy Awareness of America assists individuals with epilepsy and their families, raises public awareness and increases knowledge of and education relating to issues surrounding epilepsy.
Epilepsy Awareness of America aims to help provide contributions to individuals who need epilepsy surgery, to start camps for children with epilepsy so that they may be involved in athletic activities and to help support epilepsy research.
