JEFFERSON, LA – In honor of National Epilepsy Awareness Month, there will be an Epilepsy Awareness walk this Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Lafreniere Park. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the walk will start around 10:00 a.m., beginning and ending around 1:00 p.m. at the Foundation Center. The walk is free for all participants.
“My goal is to continue to spread awareness about epilepsy in Jefferson Parish,” said Terri Pajares, an employee of the Jefferson Parish Attorney’s Office. “The more everyone talks about epilepsy, the more we break down barriers so that those living with the condition do not have to fear discrimination or keep their epilepsy hidden.” Terri was diagnosed with epilepsy in 1990.
Epilepsy is a neurological condition in which nerve cell activity in the brain is being disturbed and is characterized by unpredictable seizures affecting nearly 50 million people of all ages worldwide.
For more information about the Epilepsy Awareness Walk, contact Terri Pajares at TPajares@jeffparish.net.
For those who wish to donate, please make checks out to the Epilepsy Awareness of America. The organization was founded in 2021 because no local non-profit companies existed in Jefferson or Orleans Parish for the support of epilepsy. Epilepsy Awareness of America assists individuals with epilepsy and their families, raises public awareness and increases knowledge of and education relating to issues surrounding epilepsy.
Epilepsy Awareness of America aims to help provide contributions to individuals who need epilepsy surgery, to start camps for children with epilepsy so that they may be involved in athletic activities and to help support epilepsy research.
