DAVID DRIVE RECYCLING DROP-OFF SITE MOVES TO JOSEPH S. YENNI BUILDING PARKING LOT

JEFFERSON, LA – Due to high volume of traffic, effective Saturday, April 20, 2024, the Eastbank recycling drop-off location will be moved to the parking lot of the Joseph S. Yenni Building (1221 Elmwood Park Boulevard, Jefferson, LA 70123). Residents will enter the parking lot from Citrus Street side and exit on to Elmwood Parkway. Please note, the Westbank drop-off location (6440 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero, LA 70072) will remain the same, as well as hours of operations (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.).

For the next six months, the Parish partnered with REALCYCLE and Glass Half Full to provide services. The following materials will be collected:

1. Glass bottles & jars (no mirrors or broken glass, ceramics, pottery, etc.)
2. Cardboard
3. Aluminum/tin/steel cans
4. Plastics #1 and #2 (#1 includes soda/water bottles) & #2 includes milk/juice/shampoo/detergent containers)
5. Mixed paper

If weather conditions force the cancellation of a planned collection event, collection will take place the following Saturday.

The following guidelines are offered to help make the program successful:

1. Only recycle what is on the list above. Contact the Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs with questions about other items. Representatives from REALCYCLE and Glass-Half-Full will also be on site to assist with any questions residents may have about their recycling.
2. Only recycle the clean stuff. Before tossing metals and plastic food containers, give them a rinse. Anything too dirty like greasy pizza boxes or take-out containers should go in the garbage. This helps avoid contamination and mold.
3. Don’t bag recycling — toss recyclables directly in the bin. Thin, plastic garbage bags can actually clog the mechanics of recycling sorters. This sort of filmy plastic, like packaging and single use plastic bags, must be recycled through a separate process. Most grocery stores will take back these kinds of bags.
4. Breakdown boxes and crush cans to fit more in your bin.

Jefferson Parish residents using the drop-off sites will be asked to provide a driver’s license or utility bill to verify residence before recycling will be accepted. Residential and smaller commercial customers receiving curbside trash collection in unincorporated Jefferson Parish, the Town of Jean Lafitte and all Jefferson Parish municipalities are allowed to use the drop-off recycling sites as well. Customers will continue to not see a charge for recycling on their utility bills while curbside collection is paused.
