AUTHOR BYRON MCKAY TO DISCUSS NEW BOOK AT NORTH KENNER LIBRARY
JEFFERSON, LA – Byron McKay, author of a new book titled Environment Trap, will discuss it at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, at the North Kenner Library (630 West Esplanade, Kenner, LA 70065). This event is free of charge and is open to the public. Registration is not required.
McKay grew up in New Orleans and basketball became his escape from the challenges and struggles of childhood. As a young teenager, he became known around my neighborhood as a basketball star. He was dedicated to the game and devoted much of his time to it, practicing tirelessly to perfect his skills. Despite his love for basketball, he couldn't shake off the allure of the street life. Growing up in a community where drug dealing, gang violence, and crime were the norm, he found himself drawn to the dangers of the streets. Before long, basketball was no longer his priority, and his commitment to the game began to dwindle. He got involved in a dirty game — dealing drugs — and taking part in gang-related activities. One night, McKay was caught in the act and arrested. He was only 18 years old and had no idea how the events of that night would change his life forever. He was sentenced to five years in prison. While he was in prison, McKay was consumed with regret for the choices he made that landed him behind bars. He also realized that he had the opportunity to start over.
